Chance Studios
Branding/Logo Design/Art Direction
Chance Studios, named after the in-house dog, is a queer-led digital media agency based in Alberta’s Bow Valley. They approached me needing help developing their brand, with only some rough sketches for a logo and a name.
They wanted to take an illustrative approach to the logo, which I rolled out across the full brand identity to create a playful, contemporary and consistent aesthetic.
The colour palette was crafted to evoke the feel of Indian ink on paper, enhancing the hand-drawn illustrations and balancing the strong, simple, graphic typeface.
Bright colours were incorporated to add dimension to the designs but also to be used sparingly to ‘highlight’ specific words, phrases, or content, much like using a highlighter pen.
Illustrations were created using a WACOM tablet and pen, intentionally left imperfect and playful. This speaks to the studio’s working process, the well-known fact that the best ideas are often jotted on the back of a napkin in a cafe or a newspaper on the bus.
The style of the drawings is what ties them all together, allowing room for illustrations to be added as the studio grows its client base, work and team.
